The hoards of silver objects, sometimes gilded, discovered at Agighiol, consisting of helmets, pots, pieces of harness, are distinguished by their technical execution and special ornamentation. In the first century BCE, the Getic-Dacians prove a great craftsmanship in the manufacture of ornaments (necklaces, brooches, bracelets) and pots processed in a personal style, such as the ornamented cups.

From the second Iron Age (450 BC – 106 AD) were discovered the hoards from Agighiol – Tulcea. At Histria is made its own currency (the first issued on the territory of Romania). From about the year 400 dates in a tumular tomb from Agighiol – Tulcea, the thesaurus which includes pieces of silver, gilded silver and gold (a helmet, two glasses, harness appliqués).

Periteasca-Leahova reservation (4125 ha) is located in the lagoon complex Razim-Sinoe. This area is a mosaic of sand banks and shallow lakes which is in a continuous process of sweetening after closing the connection with the Black Sea. It includes the lakes Leahova Mare and Mică, Periteasca, Pahane, Cosna, Bisericuţa Island and a series of sandy sand banks. Here were identified three endemic species of mollusks and many species of birds, such as the greater white-fronted goose, the red breasted goose, pelicans, ducks, and common shelducks.

On the varieties of littoral, washed by the waters of Razim lake and of the Black Sea grow few plants with special adaptations: sand waybread, sea cabbage, etc.

In this landscape, in continuous transformation and beautification is found the most popular region with coastal birds. The reservation is made up of a series of sandy sand banks and the lakes Leahova Mare and Mică, Periteașca, Pahane and Cosna. It is a favorite nesting area for the common shelducks (Bisericuţa island), and for laridae and terns. The reservation is also an important nesting and feeding refuge for the winter guests and for other species (especially during the autumn migration), being also the favorite refuge of the population of red breasted geese in their diurnal migration.

The reservation is located in the northern part of Lake Razelm, NW of Agighiol locality, between Redi Hill and Agighiol.  Herein can be admired trees with advanced ages, most of them over 100 years. (01)(02)

In the northern part of Lake Razim, NW of Agighiol locality, between Redi Hill and Agighiol is found one of the largest concentrations of endangered species, among which distinguishes, in the first place, the numerous species of orchids, reunited on a reduced area.

The grass vegetation is represented by six coenotaxon (primordial vegetal groups), of which one is specific only to the region Agighiol, and four are represented in Dobrogea through regional associations, specific to the area. The wild thyme meadow is considered endemic for Dobrogea. The woody vegetation is characterized by the presence of a shrub association having a regional character, respectively of seven forest coenotaxon, of which two are considered endemic (mixed foliage forest of Dobrogea of peak and mixed foliage forest with truffle oak), the rest being rare at national level.

Popina Island has 98 ha and is situated in the north of Lake Razelm, in the vicinity of the fishing facilities Iazurile and Sarinasuf. It has calcareous nature and a maximum height of 47 m. After 1994 the island became strictly protected area of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation. The island, being isolated from the mainland, it was able to preserve many species of herbaceous plants specific to the steppe of Dobrogea, constituting the nesting place of certain birds but also the habitat of certain reptiles and insects, some of them quite dangerous. Here is found the endemic plant Ornithogalum oreoides as well as one of the most venomous species of spider – the black widow. (03)(04)(05)(06)

Popina Island is the only place in the country where we find the grasshopper Isophya dobrogensis. In the rocky areas of shore you can meet water snake specimens and in the clayey areas a few pairs of common shelduck.

The island represents an important resting place for the migratory birds and of nesting for the common shelduck. In the spring, you can meet marsh birds, forest birds like: the common nightingale, etc.

The paleontological and geological reservation is the only reservation of marine fossils in Europe.
